Using SFX (special effects)
 to Link to Full-text Articles
  • A New Service from the
  • Texas A&M Systems Libraries
2
What is SFX?
  • SFX stands for Special Effects.
  • It is a service which provides links from a citation in one database to the full text of that article in another.
  • It is a time saver!
3
How do I use SFX?
  • Start in an SFX enabled database.  A list will be provided.
  • Do a search as you normally would.
  • If the full text of the article is not provided, click on the SFX button.
  • See the following example…

Each database looks different
  • Some database publishers (such as Ebsco) include the SFX button only when the full text is not available.  Others (such as ProQuest) will put the SFX button there even when the full text is available from that database.

Full Text!!!

But What Do I Do if the Full Text is Not Available Online??
17
First, the SFX menu will tell you that we do not have online access:
18

19
Now you know that you do have access to the article, you just have to come to the library to get it.  (That’s okay though because as much as we like to provide online access, we like to see you from time to time too!)
20
What do I do if…
  • …the article was not available online, and now the online catalog says that there is also no print copy available??
21
Ordering through Interlibrary Loan
just got a lot easier!
